Several Detained During Women's March in Minsk: Reports

At least nine protesters were detained during an anti-government women’s march in Minsk, Belarus, on Saturday, October 24, according to Viasna, an unofficial human-rights watchdog, and local media.

Demonstrations against President Alexander Lukashenko erupted in August after his administration announced victory in a presidential election that members of the opposition, including presidential candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, claim was rigged in Lukashenko’s favor. Tsikhanouskaya and several of Lukashenko’s other political opponents fled the country following the election.

Sky News’ Moscow correspondent Diana Magnay, who was reporting from the march, said that she had and two members of her crew had been detained but were later released. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
