Protesters in Belgrade Storm Parliament After New Coronavirus Restrictions Announced

Protesters stormed parliament buildings in Belgrade, Serbia, on July 6 after President Aleksandar Vucic announced a 61-hour weekend curfew due to a surge of COVID-19 cases.

More than 1,000 protesters gathered outside the parliament, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported, with Balkan Insight saying that police dispersed crowds in the city after using tear gas on demonstrators.

Video shows protesters force their way into the entrance of Serbia’s National Assembly, before police in riot gear arrive and force the crowds out to the steps of the building.
