Plane Drops Retardant Over California's Apple Fire as Blaze Prompts Thousands to Evacuate

The Apple Fire burning in California’s Riverside County had grown to 26,450 acres and was 5 percent contained as of Monday, August 3, officials said.

Roughly 7,800 residents in more than 2,500 households were ordered to evacuate, officials said, after multiple evacuation orders and warnings were put in place in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Officials said the blaze which was first reported on Friday evening, was “burning in an area with no recent fire history.”
