Photographer Stars in His Own Cool Shot of Rising Full Moon

Chicago photographer Craig Shimala captured a beautiful shot of himself silhouetted against February’s rising full moon, known as the snow moon, adding that the idea for the unique moment had been in his head “for years”.

Shimala said that “after lining this shot up” across from North Avenue Beach Pier, he ran to the beacon there, climbed up and posed just in time for the moon to pass behind him.

“That’s me on it!” Shimala wrote in a post on X.

The full moon in February is also traditionally known as the snow moon due to the cold weather North America typically faces at this time of year, according to Astronomy.com. Credit: Craig Shimala via Storyful
