Orphaned Baby Kangaroo Stands Up by Himself for the First Time

Teddy, a kangaroo orphaned as a joey, was filmed learning to stand up on his own for the first time at a kangaroo sanctuary in central Australia.

In this video, Teddy can be seen shaking on his hind legs after emerging “out of the pouch for the first time”, according to an Instagram post from The Kangaroo Sanctuary Alice Springs.

Kangaroo joeys typically spend their first nine months of life inside their mother’s pouch. The sanctuary replicates this by keeping developing joeys in a pouch and applying moisturiser to keep them as moist as they might be in their mother’s humid pouch.
