North Dakota First Responders Rescue Labrador Retriever Stranded on River Ice

A chocolate Labrador retriever was rescued by North Dakota police and fire crews on December 2 after she became stranded on floating ice in the Sheyenne River near Fargo.

This video, released by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, shows volunteer firefighters with the West Fargo Fire Department outfitted in cold-water gear navigating the frigid waters of the Sheyenne to reach the dog.

The sheriff’s office said it appeared the dog, named Lola, had escaped her owners’ property before becoming marooned on a chunk of river ice in Horace, North Dakota.

Firefighters with the West Fargo Fire Department also responded.

After her rescue, Lola was put in a squad vehicle to warm up and later returned to her owner, according to local media. Credit: Cass County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
