Race to the 'Finnish' Line: Man Sprints Across Frozen Lake in Finland

Mika Sagulin and his brother planned a gaff in which he sprinted right across the frozen water of lake Ukkijarvi in Kangasala, Finland, as seen in this video recorded by Marko Sagulin on December 10.

Mika Sagulin said the small lake froze quickly in the winter, with several inches of ice while larger lakes still had open water. A brief warm-up followed by rain left a little water on the surface of the ice, making it look like the brothers, who had been skating on the ice, were skating on water.

Then came the idea to shoot a video.

“From the balcony of our house we got just the right angle, and it looked exactly like open water, " he said. “The conditions were perfect for that one day only.”

Sagulin said that some viewers of the video have have compared his sprint to Jesus walking on water, adding that the funny part is that his brother is a pastor at a Protestant church, while Mika works as an organist. Credit: Mika Sagulin via Storyful
