Main Road in Indonesian City of Surabaya Swallowed by Giant Sinkhole

A road in Surabaya, the second biggest city in Indonesia, collapsed on Tuesday evening, December 18, creating a giant sinkhole that was measured to be 328 feet long and 65-100 feet deep, Kompas daily reported.

The collapse on Jalan Raya Gubeng, one of the main roads in the city, may have been caused by an underground construction at Siloam Hospital, said East Java police chief Luki Hermawan during a site inspection on Wednesday, December 19. Credit: Sapawarga Kota Sby via Storyful
