Little Girl With Cerebral Palsy Walks Without Help From Mom For First Time

Four-year-old Mia Mae walked for the first time without the help of her mother on February 5. Crashonda Smith, Mia Mae’s mother, recorded the exciting moment in their Chickasha, Oklahoma, home.

Smith told Storyful her daughter has cerebral palsy and has been practicing walking with her Pacer gait trainer for about 6 months.

Smith explained that in addition to cerebral palsy, Mia Mae has epilepsy, is global developmentally delayed and non-verbal, vision impaired, has hip dysplasia, and has feeding problems.

“This is her first time taking steps without my help,” she said. “I cried like a baby. I tried not to have everyone hear it in the video but I was definitely emotional behind the camera.” Credit: Crashonda Smith via Storyful
