Lightning Dazzles Storm Chaser as Storm Hits Northwest Texas

A storm chaser captured dazzling bolts of lightning and booming claps of thunder as a supercell storm swept over Dalhart, northwest Texas, on May 16.

The photographer, Guy Coopmans, told Storyful that he and his brother traveled from their home in the Netherlands to chase storms. He called the storm in this video “a doomsday supercell,” and said it produced “the best and most intense lightning” that he and his brother had seen.

The storm had prompted warnings from the National Weather Service of wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour and the possibility of large hail. Credit: Guy Coopmans via Storyful
