Launceston Blanketed in Snow After Antarctic Air Blast Brings Freezing Temperatures

A rare dumping of snow created an unusual scene in Launceston, Tasmania on August 5.

Residents of the Tasmanian city woke to a winter wonderland after snow began falling overnight. The city saw 41 millimetres of rainfall from the 24 hours before according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The city’s council warned many roads were affected by ice and fallen trees and urged motorists to take caution.
