LAPD Vehicle Strikes Protesters Before Driver Reverses, Fleeing Crowd

The driver of a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) vehicle struck at least two protesters while reversing and speeding, near Pershing Square on Sunday, May 31.

The video shows protesters standing in front of and around the police vehicle at the corner of 5th and Hill streets. The officer driving then accelerates, hitting two people, then reverses fast, almost hitting more people before taking off at high speed.

One of the protesters struck is seen in this footage falling backwards as the vehicle comes towards him, and is caught briefly under the front of the vehicle before the driver reverses. The second person struck was knocked to the ground, landing several feet away, footage shot from a media helicopter showed.

The two people struck did not appear to be seriously injured. Credit: Sophia Lee via Storyful
