After Landing Gear Tire Damaged, Qantas Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Canberra

A damaged landing gear tire forced a Qantas flight from Canberra to Sydney to turn back and make an emergency landing on Wednesday, September 11, as seen in this video, taken by Olga Shimoni.

The video shows the rubber of the blown tire flapping in the wind as the plane returns to Canberra.

“My first airplane accident,” tweeted Shimoni. “Thanks to the skilled crew who made a safe emergency landing in Canberra!”

“On takeoff the tyre was damaged so our crew returned to Canberra so engineers could inspect it,” tweeted Qantas in response to Shimoni’s video. “Rest assured our Q400 aircraft can fly and land safely in this situation.” Credit: Olga Shimoni via Storyful
