Kosovo Assembly Votes to Create Standing Army

Kosovo’s parliamentary assembly voted for the creation of a 5,000-strong standing army on December 14.

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, and currently has a 3,000-strong security force, which will be replaced by the full-time army. The plan to create an army angered Serbia, which has not recognized Kosovo’s independence, the New York Times reported. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
