Italian Flags Lowered as Death Toll Surpasses 11,000

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte ordered that all flags at public locations be lowered to half-mast on Tuesday, March 31, to mourn the thousands of lives lost to the new coronavirus, COVID-19.

The collective gesture of condolence was organized by an association of Italian mayors, according to local media. A minute of silence was observed at noon.
