Injured Protesters, Clouds of Tear Gas, at Site of Baghdad Highway Protest

Police deployed tear gas and there were reports of injuries to protesters at the Mohammed al-Qasim Highway in Baghdad on Tuesday, January 21, the day after at least four protesters were killed in clashes.

Protesters erected barricades on the highway on Monday, as clashes with security forces continued through the night and into the next day.

Video shared from the highway early on Tuesday morning showed protesters manning the barricades and lighting fires.

One of the four reported killed on Monday was Yousif Satar, a photographer with an Iraqi NGO called Support Without Borders. The NGO confirmed his death in a post to Facebook. Credit: @akel_radi via Storyful
