Hurricane Humberto Predicted to Strengthen on Approach to Bermuda

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned on September 17 that Humberto was likely to strengthen into a major hurricane before skirting Bermuda late the following day.

The NWS said that Humberto was displaying maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour and that a Tropical Storm Watch warning for the British overseas territory of Bermuda was in effect.

Humberto had been generating high surf and rip currents along the US East Coast before moving east into the Atlantic.
