Around 500 shacks were destroyed in Johannesburg, South Africa, after a fire ripped through an informal settlement on December 6, local reports said.
eNCA reported that residents scrambled to save their belongings and used buckets of water to try to put out the fire in the Alexandra area of the city on Thursday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Johannesberg Emergency Medical Services told local media that firefighters struggled to contain the blaze due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area and because the water pressure was low. They appealed for food and clothing donations to help those affected. Credit: @CandyMinaj9 via Storyful
