Huge Waves Draw Daredevil Surfers to Sydney Beach

Huge waves off Shelly Headland in Manly, Sydney, attracted some daredevil surfers and bodyboarders on July 15, despite warnings of hazardous conditions.

The surf was well and truly up, as winds gusting up to 100 km/h were reported locally, bringing waves of almost 12 meters.

This footage, recorded by Luke Duce, shows surfers riding the waves.

According to 9 News, waves reached heights of up to 11.6 meters along Sydney’s coastline.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a hazardous surf warning for July 15 and 16 in multiple coastal areas.

Police said “people should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas,” according to the bureau’s website. Credit: Luke Duce via Storyful
