Honolulu Neighborhood Fills With Smoke Following Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

Two police officers were fatally shot, another was injured, and at least four homes were destroyed in a fire in the Diamond Head neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii, during a shooting incident on January 19, according to local media.

Hawaii News Now reported that the suspect behind the shooting “stabbed his landlord when she tried to evict him and then allegedly opened fire on the officers.” The suspect then set fire to the house, the report adds, and authorities believe he died in the blaze.

The fire quickly spread to other homes and thick plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the Diamond Head area of the city in footage posted online, as this video shows, although Storyful can’t confirm the smoke is from the related fire. Credit: Shanna Pirslin via Storyful
