Helicopters Load Retardant Buckets as Apple Fire Continues to Burn in Southern California

The Apple Fire burning in Southern California had scorched more than 25,000 acres and was 30 percent contained on Thursday, August 6, according to officials.

The blaze had burned 28,085 acres by Thursday morning. Some San Bernardino County residents were still under an evacuation order but evacuations in Riverside County had been lifted, according to reports.

This video, posted on Wednesday, shows helicopters loading retardant buckets as smoke from the Apple Fire fills the sky. The buckets can carry between 600 to 2,000 gallons of retardant or water, according to the San Bernardino National Forest.

Fire officials said on Monday that they believed the blaze, which started July 31, was sparked by a “diesel-fueled vehicle emitting burning carbon from the exhaust.” Credit: San Bernardino National Forest via Storyful
