'What the Hail?' Storms Pound Los Angeles

Storms moved through Southern California on Wednesday, November 20, bringing rain and hail, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The NWS said thunder and lightning were reported near Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles in the morning. Los Angeles County lifeguards said they were patrolling and warning beachgoers of lightning.

During the afternoon, the weather service said a “strong” thunderstorm was passing through the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The NWS told drivers to prepare for wet roads and “sudden” slowdowns.
