Greenpeace Protesters Scale European Council Building in Brussels

Greenpeace protesters in Brussels scaled the Europa building, the seat of the European Council and Council of Europe, on December 12 as part of a “house on fire” demonstration directed at EU leaders.

Sixty-one demonstrators gathered before dawn and 28 climbed on to the building, unfurling a banner which read “climate emergency” and lighting flares, figuratively setting the building on fire.

Brussels police officers and fire crews attended the scene.

“Our planet is literally burning and we need countries to take climate action,” Greenpeace said. Credit: Greenpeace Belgium via Storyful
