'Great to Be Back at Work': Doctor Returns to Welsh Hospital After Recovering From Coronavirus

Dr David Hepburn, an intensive care consultant working in a Welsh hospital, shared a video on April 1 confirming that he was back at work after recovering from the coronavirus.

Hepburn tested positive for the coronavirus on March 19, and subsequently encouraged the public to follow government advice and stay at home to prevent the spread.

In an interview with the BBC, he said: “Please, please listen to the advice that is going round at the minute. This is a small sacrifice for a short period of time, and then life will go back to normal again. We have to protect everybody and we have to protect the NHS.”

In this video update, Hepburn said: “Great to be back at work. Great to feel better. I’m really pleased to be able to treat patients again. Looks like we’re going to have a very busy few months.” Hepburn said the hospital was already over its ICU capacity.

On April 1, Public Health Wales confirmed that 1,837 people had tested positive for the coronavirus across Wales. It added that “the true number of cases is likely to be higher.” Credit: Aneurin Bevan University Health Board via Storyful
