Flames Gut Tree as Creek Fire Burns Through Sierra Nevada Mountains

Flames were captured leaping from the trunk of a tree on Tuesday, October 6, as the Creek Fire continued to burn in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, having grown by close to 4,000 acres overnight into Monday, CAL Fire reported.

Sierra National Forest officials said Tuesday evening that the fire, which was first reported on September 4, had burned through 326,706 acres and was 49 percent contained.

The Creek Fire remains the largest single-fire incident in state history, though several “complex fires” have burned more total acreage, according to the Fresno Bee. Credit: Daniel R. Patterson via Storyful
