Flag Flown at Half-Staff Outside US Supreme Court Following Death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Following the news of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death on Friday, September 18, flags outside the United States Supreme Court and the US Capitol were flown at half-staff.

Ginsburg, 87, died from complications of metastatic pancreas cancer, the Supreme Court said in a statement.

“Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague,” Chief Justice John G. Roberts said in the statement.

“Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her — a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”

Ginsburg became the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court and was quoted in reports as a “pioneering advocate for women’s rights, who in her ninth decade became a much younger generation’s unlikely cultural icon.”
