Firefighters collected stoves and pitched tents for displaced residents after an earthquake in northern China killed at least 126 people.

The magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck on Monday night in Jishishan County, Linxia Prefecture, in Gansu at a depth of 10 kilometres, the China Seismological Network said.

Video shared by the Ministry of Emergency Management shows firefighters carrying supplies and pitching tents for people who had lost their homes.

State media agency Xinhua reported that the national earthquake emergency response was upgraded to a level two.

The Ministry of Emergency Management and National Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief Commission had allocated disaster relief materials to affected areas, providing temporary resettlement for displaced residents, according to the report. Credit: Emergency Management Department via Storyful
