Family's Catch Grabbed by Unsportsmanlike Shark
On a fishing trip in Bay de Verde, off the coast of Newfoundland, on August 9, a family found out that they were not the only ones who wanted a nice fat cod when a shark seized on their catch as they were bringing it in.
After Alexandria Batten’s cousin caught the fish on the end of their line, Batten said a shark “bit into a cod as my cousin was reeling it.” At that point, Batten’s dad stepped in with a heavier rod, but, as seen in the video uploaded to Batten’s Instagram, the shark hung on to the fish on the line, thrashing in the water.
After nearly 45 minutes in which the shark became more aggressive, even bumping “the bottom of the boat,” Batten told Storyful that the line was cut and the fish was released to the shark. Credit: Alexandria Batten via Storyful
