Eruption at Popocatepetl Volcano as Warnings Remain in Place

A yellow alert was issued by Mexico’s National Civil Protection Coordination on February 25 as activity at the Popocatepetl volcano remained elevated.

Volcanic gases and ash released from the volcano can be seen in this footage from early on February 25. The smoke from the explosion reached about a mile into the air, officials said.

Some 242 exhalations and two explosions were recorded within a 24-hour period to February 25 by Mexico’s CENAPRED disaster prevention agency. Civilians were urged not to approach the volcano. Credit: webcamsdemexico via Storyful
