Emotional Poll-Topper Eric Adams Remembers His Late Mother After Casting NY Primary Vote

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, who is leading the race to be the Democratic Party’s candidate for mayor in New York City, gave a heartfelt speech on June 22 after casting his primary vote.

This footage, streamed live to Facebook, shows the retired NYPD captain speaking to reporters after casting his ballot in Brooklyn.

Adams grew emotional as he remembered his mother, who died during the pandemic. “I never had the time to mourn,” he said, before describing holding her hand in her last moments. He said the city of New York “betrayed her”, when she had poor healthcare, and had to work multiple jobs.

Now, he said, he was running for mayor to “stop the betrayals”.

According to an Ipsos poll released on Monday, Adams was in the lead to win Tuesday’s primary, with Andrew Yang in second. Credit: Eric Adams via Storyful
