East Troublesome Fire Becomes Second Largest in Colorado History

Colorado’s raging East Troublesome Fire prompted mandatory evacuation orders on October 22, as the blaze grew to more than 170,163 acres, or 266 square miles.

Emergency evacuations were ordered on Thursday for residents of Estes Park and areas west of Rocky Mountain National Park as the fire continued to grow.

This footage shows billowing smoke seen from Hot Sulphur Springs as the fire spread on Thursday.

According to reports, the East Troublesome fire was the second largest in Colorado state history. Officials warned of the possible merging of the fire with the Cameron Peak Fire, which had been described as the largest in Colorado’s history.
