Demonstrators Gather on Tripoli Streets During Anti-Government Protests

Protesters gathered in the central squares of cities across Lebanon, including Tripoli, on October 22 as anti-government demonstrations entered their sixth day.

The protests began over proposed economic reforms that included a tax on calls made via WhatsApp and other apps, which the government quickly scrapped, and have continued even after the government approved a package of economic reforms that included a 50 percent reduction in salaries for former and current politicians and ministers and the establishment of an anti-corruption panel.
