Large crowds gathered in front of the Serbian Parliament in Belgrade for a third straight night on July 9, as the government said a planned lockdown of the capital, which had provoked a violent protest, would now not go ahead.

Earlier in the week, President Aleksandar Vucic’s announcement of a weekend lockdown sparked violent protests that police said resulted in injury to 43 officers and 17 protesters. There were 23 arrests, police said.

Under the newly announced restrictions, gatherings of more than 10 people are not permitted and restaurants and cafes have had their hours cut. Credit: RFE/RL via Storyful
