Crowd Gathers in Staten Island for Black Lives Matter Rally

Hundreds of people gathered on Staten Island on May 30 to demonstrate against the police-involved death of George Floyd, who died while in custody on May 25.

Reverend Al Sharpton reportedly spoke at the rally, as did Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner, who also died while in police custody in 2014.

Activists held protests in several major cities across the US after video circulated of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pinning Floyd, a black 46-year-old, to the ground with his knee on Floyd’s neck on May 25. Floyd died soon after.
