College Students Buy Plane Ticket to Get to the Chick-fil-A Past Airport Security

Students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, figured out that the fastest, cheapest way to get Chick-fil-A for lunch on Saturday, February 22, was to also buy a plane ticket, local media reported.

A group of cross-country runners wanted Chick-fil-A for lunch on Saturday, but didn’t want to make the hour-and-a-half drive to the nearest public location. The fried chicken franchise had one closer location 20 minutes away, but it was inside the Albany International Airport, and inaccessible without a ticket for a flight and a TSA check.

Team captain Vincent Putrino devised a plan to go through security at the Albany airport in order to reach Chick-fil-A, facilitated by the cheapest one-way ticket the team could find – a $98 flight to Fort Lauderdale. Split among the 18 of them, the flight cost $5.50 apiece, ABC reported. The plan was successful; this video shows Putrino arriving at the airport, emerging with bags of food, then driving back to campus, where his teammates applaud and cheer.

Putrino told ABC News that the total bill at Chick-fil-A for 15 chicken sandwiches, 13 orders of chicken nuggets, 15 large fries, cookies, and lemonade was $227.28, meaning that the entire excursion cost each student only $18. Credit: Vincent Putrino/Ryan Morrison via Storyful
