Cloud of Smoke From Beirut Explosion Visible 30 Miles Away

A massive explosion rocked the port area of Beirut, Lebanon, on Tuesday, August 4. More than 50 people were killed and over 2,700 injured, according to figures released by Lebanon’s health minister on Tuesday evening.

Fayez Moughrabi says this footage shows thick smoke rising in the air from the direction of Beirut. He shot the video from his home in the rural municipality of Kfar Selouane, around 30 miles to the east of the capital.

Moughrabi said that the noise from the blast was “unbelievable,” adding that “it was the most powerful sound I’ve ever experienced.”
