Christmas Arrives in New York With Rockefeller Tree Lighting Ceremony

The holiday season officially began in New York City on December 4, with the 87th annual lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

New Yorkers and tourists filled the streets around Rockefeller Plaza to catch a glimpse of the tree and the evening’s musical performers, including John Legend, Idina Menzel, Gwen Stefani, and Ne-Yo.

According to local reports, the tree is a 77-foot tall Norway spruce from the upstate New York village of Florida, and is decorated with 50,000 multicolored LED lights and a Swarovski crystal star. Credit: Brady Littlefield via Storyful
