Car Windows Smashed by Golf Ball-Sized Hail in Canberra, Australia

Car windows were smashed by golf ball-sized hail in the Australian capital Canberra, as severe storms were forecast around the state of New South Wales on January 20.

Hailstones as large as 5 centimetres were reported to have fallen on the city, with further storms a possibility later in the day.

The Australian Capital Territory’s Emergency Services Agency received more than 1,200 calls for assistance by 2:50pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued storm warnings for almost a quarter of New South Wales.

The NSW State Emergency Service urged residents to move their cars under cover and away from any trees and power lines as storms were forecast to affect southern parts of the state on January 20. Credit: hil_clix_pix via Storyful
