Fans of The Late Late Show had mixed reactions after footage was posted on January 22 that purported to show James Corden being towed through Los Angeles with singer Justin Bieber for what they assumed would be an installment of Carpool Karaoke.
Carpool Karaoke is a recurring segment on The Late Late Show in which host Corden invites famous musical guests to sing along to their songs with him while he appears to drive around Los Angeles and other cities. Previous episodes have featured the likes of Paul McCartney, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, and Billie Eilish.
Footage shared to Twitter by user @zolihonig shows Corden and Bieber in the front seats of an SUV being towed by a truck.
Zoli wrote: “Saw James Corden and Justin Bieber filming carpool karaoke and this is why I have trust issues – he isn’t even driving!”
Other Twitter users rebutted Zoli with their own images of Corden driving Katy Perry and One Direction, and many echoed the sentiment of @leeangelinaaa, who wrote, “Good for them, safety first!!”
Ben Winston, an executive producer for The Late Late Show responded to the viral video on January 23 by tweeting: “James always drives during Carpool! Sometimes when there is a stunt component and its unsafe to drive, we will use a rig. But that’s only happened 4 times in 50 or so carpools !!” Credit: zolihonig via Storyful
