Canberra Man Helps Thirsty Possum During Intense Australian Heatwave

A couple in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, helped out a thirsty possum who was suffering through an intense heatwave that gripped the country on Monday, January 14.

Griffith resident Murray O’Hanlon told the Canberra Times he found the possum lying on its back in his shed before it ran up into the roof.

He offered it a big bowl of water and a peach to help it cool down in the 36 degree heat.

The heatwave in Canberra continued through the week, with temperatures peaking at 40.1 degrees on Tuesday and expected to reach 41 degrees on Wednesday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).

BoM tweeted on Wednesday that the past four days were in Australia’s top 10 warmest days on record. Credit: Murray O’Hanlon via Storyful
