Army Personnel in Austria Clear Snow From Avalanche-Hit Hotel

Army engineers worked to clear snow from the dining room of a hotel in the village of Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria, on January 15, after it was hit by an avalanche.

Around 60 people were evacuated after the avalanche hit the Kirchenwirt Pehab hotel and an adjacent apartment building at around 1 am, rescue services said. No one was hurt, the Kronen Zeitung said.

“It was lucky the avalanche didn’t occur four hours earlier when all of the guests were in the dining room,” Heribert Eisl, of Ramsau am Dachstein’s mountain rescue team, told AFP.
