IPOH, Nov 4 — A video purportedly showing infighting between Barisan Nasional (BN) members in Gerik over "parachute candidate" Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has made the rounds on social media.

In the 93-second video posted on Twitter by pro-opposition cartoonist Zunar, the incumbent for Pengkalan Hulu Datuk Aznel Ibrahim was seen confronted by a few individuals in a room that appeared to have been holding a division-level meeting.

Aznel, who was seen furious, was dragged to the side by a few individuals.

Subsequently, a group of individuals wearing BN vests was also seen trying to calm down a man who was seen shouting angrily.

The video also carries a message stating that:

"Gerik Umno division in chaos, don’t want Asyraf Wajdi. Zahid Hamidi please don’t damage the unity in Umno."

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is the Umno president.

Malay Mail had contacted Asyraf Wajdi for comments, but could not be reached for feedback during the time of writing.

On Wednesday, Perak Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad cited last minute decision as the reason why Asyraf Wajdi was put in Gerik.

"Yes initially there were no candidates from outside, that’s why I said no outsider in Perak.

"But as usual, things like this happen in the party at the last minute. This is not something new or out of the ordinary,” he said.
