Victor Osimhen teases Man Utd transfer by leaving open goal for Ten Hag to emphatically blast home incredible deal
Victor Osimhen is refusing to rule out a summer move to Manchester United by dropping a fairly hefty hint about a possible summer exit from Napoli.
United manager Erik ten Hag has presided over an excellent campaign so far with the club still very much alive in four competitions. Indeed, the club has a great chance to end their six-year trophy drought this coming weekend in the Carabao Cup final.
But the best could be yet to come with United also hoping to progress deep in the Champions League and FA Cup. Furthermore, they currently sit third in the table and are just five points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Giving their brilliant run of form of late, some believe they could even finish the season as Premier League champions. And while Manchester City will remain favourites, Simon Jordan reckons United will usurp Arsenal amid a Gunners title collapse.
Either way, United will have a strong belief they can bring Champions League football back to Old Trafford next season.
And should that happen, Ten Hag will be furnished with an extended transfer budget with which to strengthen his squad.
To that end, the club’s major aim this summer is to sign a new central striker.
The club has three targets in mind, with Dusan Vlahovic, Harry Kane and Osimhen all under consideration.
As far as Vlahovic is concerned, reports earlier on Tuesday suggested United had seen a £88.8m offer for his services accepted in January. However, but for the actions of an agent, United were instead forced to settle for Wout Weghorst.
Victor Osimhen open to exit at Napoli amid Man Utd speculation
Kane, meanwhile, looks a hard one for United to land. His focus remains on signing an extension at Tottenham. And to all intents and purposes, Kane will likely stay where he is.
As far as Osimhen goes, he is arguably seen as the one player United may have the greatest chance of signing.
Any deal for the Nigerian though is likely to hit United hard in the pocket, though.
To that end, trusted reporter Ben Jacobs has explained to TEAMtalk the two major hurdles blocking United’s path to his signing.
However, United are likely to make Osimhen their No 1 target this summer. And amid claims Napoli will sell at a starting price of £105.7m (€120m), a potential deal appears in United’s sights.
Osimhen himself is certainly well aware of the links to United. And while not naming them specifically, he has left the door ajar as far as a summer move is concerned.
When asked if he could leave Napoli, Osimhen refused to rule out his chances of a summer switch.
“When you are doing so well, top clubs around the world are watching, mostly in the top five leagues,” Osimhen told ESPN.
“And to be able to attract interest from these top clubs shows that I am doing great. It gives me the motivation to do even more for myself and my team.
“But I am focused on Napoli right now and they have the final say. I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies. At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me. It is for the club to decide.”
Striker comes clean on Napoli goals
Napoli are currently the runaway leaders in Serie A this season with a 15-point buffer to Inter in second. And with 20 wins and just one loss from their 23 games to date, it only appears a matter of time before they are crowned Serie A champions.
That will end a 33-year wait for Scudetto success for the Neopolitans and spark wild scenes of celebrations for Gli Azzurri.
Osimhen is the undoubted star turn of their squad too. Indeed, he already has 19 goals and three assists from 23 appearances so far this season.
That takes his overall tally to an impressive 47 in 85 games for Luciano Spalletti’s side.
Despite sitting five goals clear of Lautaro Martinez at the top of the Serie A goalscoring charts, Osimhen insists he is not motivated by personal accolades.
And proving he is very much the team player – and someone who would fit in at Old Trafford – Osimhen made clear his ambitions.
He added: “Being the highest goalscorer is actually not my main priority. The team comes first before my personal ambition.
“If I win it, that’s fine but what I want to do is try to win trophies with my team.
“As long as the team is winning, it doesn’t matter to me who gets the goals or whether I win top scorer or not.”
