KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Veteran singer and actress Noorkumalasari was finally able to speak to older sister, the iconic Anita Sarawak on the first day of Hari Raya.

The singer whose real name is Noor Kumalasari binti Mohamed Taib, 67, caught up with Anita, 71, on the phone at their elder sister Noraini Mohamad Taib’s home on April 22.

“This the happiest Raya I have celebrated. I managed to speak to Nita after waiting so long,” she told Berita Harian.

“Thank God I got to speak with my sister Nita and laughed, joked around, and shared stories for half an hour.”

The singer and her siblings usually gather at Noraini’s house on the first day of Raya and hope to receive a call from Anita, but it never came.

This year Anita called Noorkumalasari who was performing her prayers, and waited for her to finish them before speaking to her.

Noorkumalasari said that Anita and her husband Mahathir Abdullah are happy living ordinary lives in Las Vegas.

She shared that Anita and Mahathir felt relieved being away from the spotlight and the pressures of being a celebrity.

Anita had sent a birthday message to Noorkumalasari last year, but it didn’t reach her.

Noorkumalasari said she last spoke to Anita around a week before she flew to the United States.

Anita, known for hits such as Seksis and Asmara, ‘disappeared’ from the media after travelling to the United States with her husband in 2011.

Since then, she hasn’t made any public appearances or statements, only clearing rumours by contacting journalist Roslen Fadzil in May 2022.

Noorkumalasari is the daughter of the late actor Roomai Noor from his second marriage with Datin Umi Kalthum, while Anita is Roomai’s daughter from his previous marriage to actress Siput Sarawak.
