KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — After rumours of getting beaten to death by her own son, veteran Bollywood actress Veena Kapoor has come out to clear the air.

Along with her son, the 73-year-old actress appeared in an interview with Asian News International (ANI) after filing a police report at the Dindoshi police station in Mumbai, India.

According to Hindustan Times, Veena clarified that there was a Veena Kapoor who was killed by her son recently and she just happened to share the same name.

“This is false news. The truth is there was a Veena Kapoor, she has been murdered. But I’m not that Veena Kapoor.

“The name is the same but I stay here in Goregaon, not Juhu. I’m also staying with my son, so that’s why people thought I was the Veena Kapoor,” she explained.

According to Veena, she has been mentally tortured by the rumours, being barraged with endless calls. Meanwhile, ANI reported that her son is currently receiving hate speech online.

“If we don’t complain now, then the same thing will be repeated later with others.

“The mental torture that’s happening with repeated calls, day and night, even while shooting ruins the mood. I’m also unable to focus on work,” Veena added.

The news of the mistaken identity was also reported by news agency PTI, with an official from the Dindoshi police station confirming they have received a defamation case report.

The case was registered on the complaint of Veena who said her photograph was used in a news report in place of a senior citizen who was allegedly murdered by her son in Mumbai’s Juhu area.

The police official said that the senior citizen who was allegedly killed over a property dispute shared the same name with the actress, which may have caused the mix-up.

The case is being investigated under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code for defamation.

Veena is best known for her role in Indian drama series Bhabhi as well as films Dal:The Gang, Dabdaba and Mitter Pyare Nu Haal Mureedan Da Kehna.
