LIZ LOZA: Happy Monday, America. While you were sleeping off the Sunday scaries, Team USA was putting in some work. Here's what you might have missed. We'll start on the pitch, where Team USA and our neighbors to the north met in the Olympic semifinal.

In the 30th minute, the hero from the quarterfinal shootout, Alyssa Naeher, landed awkwardly on her right knee and was forced to sub out. So in came backup goalkeeper, AD Franch. The Kansas native was put in a tough spot as Canada was awarded a penalty on a VAR check in the 74th minute. Canadian midfielder Jessie Fleming stepped up and buried it for her squad, giving them all they needed for their first win over the US women's team in 20 years. Team USA will compete for the bronze on Thursday.

Next, let's head over to the Ariake Center for the women's gymnastics floor exercise final. Jade Carey entered as the lone American in the event. After a tough showing on vault, she bounced back triumphantly, putting down a massive run to score 14.366 and bring the gold home for Team USA. That's the second gold for the US women's gymnastics team from these Summer Games. And they might get one more, as USA Gymnastics announced that superstar Simone Biles will return to the arena for the balance beam final on Tuesday alongside Suni Lee. We got our fingers crossed.

Over on the track, Kendra Harrison took to the blocks for the 100-meter hurdles, an event she holds the world record in. Harrison was edged out by Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who set an Olympic record. But she brought home the silver medal with a run just 3/10 of a second off of her world record pace. Congrats on a great run, Kendra.

On the basketball courts, the US women extended their insane win streak to 52 games with a 93 to 82 win over France. A'ja Wilson pace the US with 22 points, and Tina Charles poured in 15 of her own off the bench. Team USA now heads to the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Finally, we head to the baseball diamond, where Team USA met Team Japan in the quarterfinals. In a back-and-forth affair that took an extra inning to decide, it was Takuya Kai's walk-off single in the 10th that proved to be the difference. Olympic baseball has a double elimination format. So Team USA still has a path to battle its way to a medal. We're all rooting for you guys to get it done.

Also picking up medals for the US on Monday were Adeline Gray, who grabs silver in women's 76 kilograms wrestling, Valerie Allman, who blew past the competition to secure gold in the discus throw, and Sarah Robles, who became the first American woman to win two Olympic weightlifting medals with a bronze in the 87 kilogram event.

As we take a look at the medal count, China is still well out in front in the gold medal standings, with Team USA holding down the second spot. But the Americans still have the edge in the total medal standings with China in second and the ROC in third.
