Unseasonal heat scorches Spanish countryside

STORY: Drone footage showed dry land in the olive groves in Huevar del Aljarafe, in the southern province of Seville, traditionally one of Spain’s warmest areas where temperatures this week have surpassed 100F (38C).

Spain has been experiencing unseasonal hot weather throughout the week with temperatures peaking on Thursday and Friday, breaking the April heat record, the Spanish state weather agency AEMET said.

The country has had 36-consecutive months of below-average rainfall. Reservoirs are on average at 50% of their capacity, however, in the northeastern region of Catalonia and the southern region of Andalusia, levels have fallen to approximately 25%.
