“Ladies & Gents, that is a wrap on Unprisoned,” Washington wrote in part. “This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3. But I wanted you to hear it from me because while we’re super duper disappointed, we’re also crazy deeply grateful.”

“Thank you to ABCS, Hulu & Onyx for giving us a creative home,” she continued. “And most importantly, we are grateful to YOU ALL – for watching, laughing, crying, yelling, dancing, eye-rolling, cheering (and all of the things between) along with us each episode.”

Her full statement can be read below.

“UnPrisoned” starred Washington, Delroy Lindo, Faly Rakotohavana, Marque Richardson, Jordyn McIntosh, and Jee Young Han. The series focused on Paige Alexander (Washington), a marriage and family therapist whose life is upended when her father (Lindo) is released from prison and moves in with her and her son.

The show originally debuted in 2023, with the second season dropping in July 2024. It received strong reviews from critics, with the two seasons holding an average 96% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series was created and executive produced by Tracy McMillan. Yvette Lee Bowser also executive produced along with Washington and Pilar Savone through Washington’s Simpson Street banner, as well as Lindo. Joy Gorman Wettels and Jen Braeden also executive produce. ABC Signature was the studio.
