One journalist believes it is “unlikely” that Tottenham will sign a star that will have a “massive impact” in the January transfer window.
During Antonio Conte’s time at Tottenham, he has made a series of smart additions to the side. Last season, those were Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski – both from Juventus.
The latter was one of the better performing players in the Premier League in the second half of the season. Indeed, the winger provided eight assists and bagged five goals in the 18 games he played.
This summer, the marquee signing was Richarlison. While currently injured, he looks as if he should be a fantastic addition to a front line which contains Kulusevski, along with Heung-min Son and Harry Kane.
In total, there have been 10 signings at Tottenham since Conte has been at the helm.
It would be a surprise if he was content with just the players currently at his disposal. Indeed, he has already revealed that he is plotting some additions for the winter transfer window.
He said the target is to improve “on and off the pitch” recently, which points to some more fresh faces in the squad.
Spurs will hope that keeps them fighting at the top end of the Premier League table – they sit fifth at the moment.
Massively impactful signing ‘unlikely’
They had been fourth for quite a while, but a draw to Brentford and then a 2-0 loss against Aston Villa upon the return to league action saw them slip below Manchester United.
As such, additions could be ideal, in order see them jump back up to their previous position.
However, there is doubt that there will be a star added that is going to be a massive bonus to the side, according to journalist Paul Brown
“Ideally, Conte would like the calibre of player who can come in and make an immediate impact and a big difference for Spurs,” he told GIVEMESPORT.
“But the business model there that he keeps talking about suggests that they won’t do that in January and they’ll just look for younger players they can assimilate and bring in slowly.
“So, it’s unlikely you’ll see Spurs make a signing that is going to have a massive impact straightaway in the first team.”
The last massively impactful signing that Spurs made was Kulusevski. He slotted into the side perfectly and has made a real difference to the team.
If they are to continue improving, adding another player of that ilk seems necessary.
As such, it would not be a surprise if Conte decides to go after a big name in January. They have been told they should be going after centre-back Josko Gvardiol at any cost, and that could be a signing they do attempt.
