UN 'concerned' after death sentence for jailed soldiers

STORY: "The UN Human Rights Office - is concerned about the so-called Supreme Court of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic sentencing three servicemen to death," said OHCHR spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani told a news briefing in Geneva on Friday.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the two Britons, Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner, and Moroccan, Brahim Saadoun, had committed crimes on the territory of the self-proclaimed state trying to break away from Ukraine.

Kyiv said Thursday's court ruling had no authority, that the fighters were members of the Ukrainian armed forces and that they were subject to Geneva Convention protections.
